Waka exponent, Queen Salawa Abeni is now happily married.
Surprised? Well, she chose to keep the union close to her chest until recently when she decided opening up at her husband’s birthday/retirement party in Lagos on Sunday.
Formerly married to Alhaji Ayinla Kollington who she had two kids for, her first husband was Alhaji Lateef Adepoju, owner of Leaders Records.
For one who has been on the musical terrain since she was 13, 62-year-old Salawa has definitely found love in old age.
Her new love is Retired Comptroller, Rasheed Agbolade Adahunse. The gentleman who hails from Ijebu Isiwo had his birthday and retirement party on November 12 , 2012. With family and friends present, it was a time to celebrate him and his good deeds while in the Customs.
Adahunse is the Asiwaju Adinni of Ijebu Isiwo.
According to reports exclusively gathered by Kemiashefonlovehaven, Salawa got married to the retired Custom officer four years ago.
In her speech at the party when summoned to talk about Adahunse, she said, “I don’t have much words to utter, let me thank God, I will just say a bit about Alhaji Abdulrasheed Agbolade, my dearest husband. You are retired but not tired, I pray that as God joined us together as husband and wife four years ago, you will live long and have abundance. I saw you then as a complete ‘English’ man, you saw me as a musician. But love conquered all. I have not chosen wrongly. From today, call me Abeni, Idunu Ishola.”
When asked by Kemi Ashefon in 2019 if she would get married again, Salawa, who was just recovering from a health challenged that ravaged her for almost five years replied then, “I was once married to Chief Kollington Ayinla but we are no longer together. I don’t want to comment on that because the union produced wonderful children. Now, I am not married but I have lovely kids. That a woman is successful in her career and still married is good. That’s a plus. On the other hand, it does not mean the woman who is divorced or single is of bad behavior—she is not abnormal. It could be a challenge and such women should move on and stop seeing everyone as an enemy.
They should also learn to ignore whatever negative words people are saying. There is no woman who doesn’t want to be married. Though there could be challenges, I believe God can give everyone a new beginning. Even at my age, I know and believe God can give me a new beginning. So, don’t give up!”
